Each time the Apostles are listed, St. Peter is always named first; Judas Iscariot always named last.

 

St. Peter given the keys and Eliakim being a type of him


Matthew 16:18-19—18 And I say to thee: That thou art Peter[rock]; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it

19 And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven



Isaiah 22:21-22—21 And I will clothe him with thy robe, and will strengthen him with thy girdle, and will give thy power into his hand: and he shall be as a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Juda.

22 And I will lay the key of the house of David upon his shoulder: and he shall open, and none shall shut: and he shall shut, and none shall open


Our Lord builds the Church on St. Peter


Matthew 16:18— 18 And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it


St. Peter’s faith will strengthen his brethren

Luke 22:32—32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and thou, being once converted, confirm thy brethren


St. Peter is the first apostle to see the resurrected Christ


John 21:17—17 He said to him the third time: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved, because he had said to him the third time: Lovest thou me? And he said to him: Lord, thou knowest all things: thou knowest that I love thee. He said to him: Feed my sheep


The Angel is sent to announce resurrection to St. Peter


Mark 16:7—7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee; there you shall see him, as he told you


St. Peter oversees the election of St. Matthias


Acts 1:15-16—15 In those days Peter rising up in the midst of the brethren, said: (now the number of persons together was about an hundred and twenty:

16 Men, brethren, the scripture must needs be fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was the leader of them that apprehended Jesus


St. Peter preaches first apostolic sermon


Acts 2:14—14 But Peter standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spoke to them: Ye men of Judea, and all you that dwell in Jerusalem, be this known to you, and with your ears receive my words


St. Peter performs first apostolic miracle


Acts 3:6-7—6 But Peter said: Silver and gold I have none; but what I have, I give thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, arise, and walk

7 And taking him by the right hand, he lifted him up, and forthwith his feet and soles received strength


St. Peter excommunicates first heretic


Acts 8:21—21 Thou hast no part nor lot in this matter. For thy heart is not right in the sight of God


St. Peter baptizes first Gentile


Acts 10:44-46—44 While Peter was yet speaking these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them that heard the word

45 And the faithful of the circumcision, who came with Peter, were astonished, for that the grace of the Holy Ghost was poured out upon the Gentiles also

46 For they heard them speaking with tongues, and magnifying God


St. Peter presides over first apostolic council


Acts 15:7—7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter, rising up, said to them: Men, brethren, you know, that in former days God made choice among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel, and believe


St. Peter pronounces first apostolic dogma


Acts 15:19—19 For which cause I judge that they, who from among the Gentiles are converted to God, are not to be disquieted


St. Paul visits St. Peter after his conversion


Galatians 1:18—18 Then, after three years, I went to Jerusalem, to see Peter, and I tarried with him fifteen days
